My love for the beauty of flowers and natural garden-scapes began as a young girl growing up on my family's 18 acre mountain top home in North Asheville. With an abundance of native wildflowers and ferns our property was an amazing place to learn of and foster a love for the outdoors. I graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in English. After many internet business endeavors, I soon realized that I needed to follow my passion and get my hands back in the dirt. Eleventh Hour Designs was born in 2004. The business began with the planting and sales of container gardens. Over the last fourteen years Eleventh Hour Designs has grown to encompass not only seasonal container gardening but also full service garden design, project management, garden consultation, and special event floral design.
Elizabeth Brown began gardening in WNC in 1981 while also working professionally doing research and consulting on apple diseases. Elizabeth designs gardens with the belief that the views of a garden from inside a house are as valuable as the views while walking in the garden; and her advice about gardening is to enjoy the journey, embrace the changes (good and bad) that occur in your garden, and always work with Mother Nature. A self-described plant nerd, Elizabeth loves propagating and cultivating all plants and designing gardens for year round interest. She developed gardens on her own mountain cove property with her husband Kemper while also raising 3 boys. Elizabeth’s 2 acres of cultivated gardens incorporate paths and “rooms’ to invite strolling, benches for contemplation, as well as a large vegetable garden and fruit orchard. She also loves to consult on and design edible landscapes.
